Suspect cuts his hands and leaves a trail of blood for Guardia Civil to follow – as well as a stolen TV in the street

INCOMPETENT burglars who left a trail of blood from the apartment they had broken into – as well as tools and a stolen TV outside in the street – have been detained in Torrevieja by the Guardia Civil.

Officers were sent to the scene of the crime early last Thursday morning to make what were perhaps not the most difficult arrests of their careers.

The local force had been alerted at 07.00 that an ‘apparently stolen’ television was standing outside the door an apartment block next to a large pool of blood and a number of tools. Even before they arrived the officers spotted a man near the building with deep cuts to his hands, who was covered in blood.

A force spokesman explained that they immediately arrested him on suspicion of being involved in the burglary.

Following the trail of blood, the officers were led to the flat which had been broken into.

They found that the suspect had allegedly cut himself while smashing a window to the apartment, which was very close to his own home.

“This man and his flatmate not only left blood on the wall they climbed on to get into the property, but were also seen by a long list of witnesses,” stated the spokesman.

One of neighbours saw them entering the flat, another saw them trying to wash blood off the apartment door – and the injured man also asked the owner of a nearby bar if he could use the toilet to clean his hands, explained the spokesman.

The suspects – a 20-year-old Syrian and a 23-year-old Moroccan – have both been ‘placed at the disposition’ of a Torrevieja judge.

They have been charged with breaking and entering.
