Scaled-down Habaneras event announced
Torrevieja town hall revealed that ‘in the end’ there will be a Habaneras festival this year – but it will be much scaled down event.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón said the town would ‘keep its cultural identity symbol’ but with just four performances at the outdoor Eras de la Sal arena in the harbour area.
These will take place from July 22 to July 25.
He noted that ‘in spite of all the health and hygiene challenges’ they have managed to present a ‘great programme’.
It will not be a competition this year but a tribute to the ‘habanera’.
Sr Dolón added that they decided not to postpone something which is ‘the essence of Torrevieja’.
However, it will be adapted to the current circumstances, he noted.
Each member of the four choirs taking part will be at least 1.5 metres away from their nearest colleague.
There will also be 10 soloists accompanied by piano and Torrevieja symphonic orchestra.
It starts on July 22 at 22.30 with the Orfeón de Torrevieja, who are followed by the youth choir, Coro de Jóvenes de Madrid.
On July 23 the sopranos Pepa Maciá and María Maciá will perform, followed by baritone Pablo López – then the choir ‘Coro de Cámara Ad Libitum de la Escuela Coral de Quart de Poblet’.
The sopranos Luca Espinosa and Mireia Dolç will start the evening on July 24 followed by tenor José Manuel Delicado, with the Coro Vokal Ars choir on last.
The final night – July 25 – will see ‘a grand gala of Torrevieja soloists and the Torrevieja symphonic orchestra’ performing.
People attending the performances will have to wear a face mask and will have their temperature taken at the entrance and ‘will not be allowed entry if it is above normal’.
Only 75% of the normal seating allocation will be allowed.
Tickets will be on sale from the Habaneras ‘patronato’ office until July 21 at Calle Patricio Pérez, 1 from Monday to Friday from 10.00-14.00 and 18.30-20.30.
From July 22 they are available at the Plaza Miguel Hernández ticket office from 11.0013.00 and 19.00-23.00.
