Teulada-Moraira Fishing Club

-

On Wednesday, July 8 we were faced with a forecast which suggested the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon. As holding along length of carbon fibre when there is lightning around is not a good idea, we decided we would go fishing but keep a very watchful eye on the sky and be prepared for a rapid “pack up ”. As it happened, although once or twice there were dark clouds around, there was no thunder or lightning and we had a very pleasant day as the cloud cover and gentle breeze kept the temperature down.

T here were a doz en or so members gathered again on B section.

It was a generally slow start to the day with only one or two fish being landed in the first hour. The targeting of the far bank , which usually produces some good fish, was not proving to be successful whilst fishing on the bottom. Later in the day a few members fished this area using large floats to try to find if the fish were feeding nearer to the surface. Only Vic Wills had real success with this, landing nine fish from up in the water.

Graham Se well was the only member who seemed to be having any much success fishing close into the near bank taking six fish from this area and three from further out.

Throughout the day members tried various distances to locate the fish and a few were take nat a little over half distance. It appeared that the fish must be cruising up and down the riv er as adjacent angle rs would hook a fish within minutes of each other, at the same distance, and then all would go quiet again.

F rank P ov ey, who was not hav ing a g ood day in g eneral, manag ed to locate a shoal close in towards the end of the session. H e hook ed fiv e fish in successiv e casts to the same spot but his day only g ot worse as he only manag ed to land one!
