A NEW contract for the municipal service to catch and look after stray animals in San Fulgencio has been signed by the local council.

The year-long agreement with the company Anguimar SL includes management of adoptions and a zero-kill policy, ‘except in very extreme cases of incurable illness or if the animal is in great suffering’, said social services councillor Ana María Villena.

She explained that the services also include checking any lost or dead animals for identification microchips, veterinary services, implanting microchips, vaccinations against rabies, pet passports and sterilisation of all animals collected.

The company has furthermore promised to update the town hall daily on the date and time that any animals are collected, plus their species, breed, sex, chip details, place of origin, identifying marks, date of exit and destination.

Moreover, residents will be able to access photos of all the animals collected on the website of the association Caminando con Ellos, which runs the company and the dog pound in Los Infiernos (Murcia), as well as the stray animal services in numerous municipalities in that region and in Rojales.

Anguimar also has its own

Facebook and Instagram social media profiles.

Anyone who finds a loose animal in San Fulgencio should call the local police on 96 679 44 53, or the animal welfare department (Concejalía de Bienestar Animal) on 653 65 09 05, and they will pass on the message to the company.

The councillor assured that this change has been long-awaited by residents of the area, who are ‘very fond animals of and committed to their welfare’.
