We want you as a new recruit!

- By Alex Watkins

THE PROTECCIÓN Civil group of Almoradí is hoping to double its numbers with a new recruitment campaign.

They are looking for residents who would like to help them with their public safety and crowd control duties on a voluntary basis.

Councillor for security Alfonso Garcia hailed the importance of the work that is carried out by this collective on an altruistic basis.

He encouraged anyone who feels the vocation to join what he described as ‘a unique experience with a compact group of volunteers who participate in day-to-day activities, as well as sporting, social and cultural events, and collaborate with the local police in security matters’.

“The great role played by the Protección Civil in Almoradí was demonstrated by the vital jobs they recently did during the DANA storm in September, and now during the state of emergency and the return to normality,” he said.

“The key to the success of this group is the human factor.”

Currently there are 15 members but they are hoping to reach twice that number.

“We need more people who are committed, and the more people who join us in this altruistic work, the easier it will be to cover shifts and days off, so that work, family and volunteering can be reconciled,” noted their coordinator, Arturo Kaleja.

This very active and dedicated group also gets to take part in training courses nd workshops, participate in municipal security plans, and have their own headquarters and equipment so they can do their work properly, he said.

Anyone who is over 16 years old is invited to find out more by calling 616 974 247 or visiting the headquarters, next to the local police station, between 16.00 and 20.00.

The town hall has published leaflets and posters explaining what Almoradí’s Protección Civil do, such as collaborating with police and fire fighters, forest guards and environmental officers in cases of accidents and emergencies, including possible earthquakes or flooding, added Protección civil member Andrés Solano.

These also detail guidelines for how to act in certain adverse situations.
