Isobel helps ADAT

-

THIS picture shows Isobel from Germany donating a generous €500 and a large bag of bedding to ADAT (Association of Defenders of Animals of Torrevieja), who are based at the municipal animal shelter (Albergue Municipal de Animales) in Avenida Los Nénufares, by the fire station.

ADAT helps to provide many necessary supplies, such as more expensive wet and dry food for cats and kittens, because some (like people) have different dietary requirements. ADAT also helps to finance sterilisation of feral street cats in order to control the population as much as possible.

If you care to know more about ADAT, the shelter or indeed would like to help in any way, please send an email to alberguecats@gmail.com

Costa Blanca News’ weekly feature supporting local writers, in conjunction with Writers' Ink

WELCOME to our Writers’ Ink group’s weekly words. We provide news, views, tips and examples of writing by authors and poets, local and beyond.

Founded in 2010 by WordPlay, our purpose is to encourage writers to write and get them published and read. Keep writing! Greetings,

Hi everyone! I do hope you are all coping well in the continually trying circumstances. We can hardly pretend that all is ‘hunky dory’, and most have an annoying Achilles Heel they have to watch out for.

If it’s a heights phobia, it’s easy enough to keep away from mountains, but if it’s a fear of enclosed spaces, well that needs a little thought.

Fortunately, we can enjoy the great outdoors, as long as we are masked, but with some people being of a more nervous nature, it is understandable they do not feel as safe or relaxed as usual, especially the real worriers among us! So, how to enjoy that enviable, relaxed feeling?

There are, of course, tried and tested ways – like yoga, Pilates and tai-chi – all of which I can heartily recommend, having tried all three.

Not for you? Well, let’s test a few alternatives. Breathing in and out slowly and/or using a mantra to slow your breathing are now quite common ways of calming down, and did you know that reading for only six minutes can reduce anxiety and allow your heart to beat more slowly? And it’s pleasurable

too, or should be… an added bonus.

Many famous writers have written wise words on the subject that are well worth digesting. Even Viktor Frankl, an amazing survivor from one of the Holocaust’s death camps, advised us to use ‘humour as a lifeline to sanity and survival’ and to say ‘yes to life: in spite of everything’.

Mary Shelley celebrated ‘nature’s beauty as a lifeline to sanity’, and Tennessee Williams reflected, as death approached: “We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love.” The above was included in Maria Popova’s memorable article in Brain Pickings, a regular site seen on Facebook and well worth reading.

On the exciting ‘home’ front – Janette Davies, in conjunction with Drummond Marvin, both of Writers Ink, have collaborated and published a worthy book: A Creative Collective Collection of Competitions. It is available from Amazon in paperback form for twelve pounds and fifty-three pence, and is well worth a read.

All take care, folks.

Sincerely,

Joy Lennick joylennick@gmail.com www.joylennick.wordpress.com Ezine: http://writersinkspot.com Most of our writers’ books are available from Amazon and Kindle. Some from Apple, Nook (Barnes & Noble). Sribd, Kobo, 24 Symbols, Tolovo and Page Foundry.
