Over the next four years, the Marina Alta is set to benefit from a €15 million cash injection for 72 different projects which will create around 1,100 jobs in the district.

THE provincial government (Diputación de Alicante) has laid out plans for 72 different projects, which will create work during their execution for 900 construction workers and another 200 or so technical and professional positions, according to the deputy for infrastructure, Javier Gutiérrez.

Diputaciones primarily delegate funds for road works and public facilities, particularly in smaller municipalities, rather than being a law-making or policy-creating entity.

In Alicante province, a series of renovation and rebuilding projects due to take place between now and the end of the year 2023 will qualify for grants . The provincial givernment's four-year 'Planifica' project allows local councils to work out what they most need to repair, restore, or build from scratch and apply for subsidies to cover up to 55% of their total cost.

Dénia wants to give the main Marqués de Campo boulevard and the Glorieta square at the top of it a thorough makeover at an estimated cost of €1.34m, of which the Diputación will provide just under €740,000.

These works will also spread out to adjoining streets – Calles Cop, Ramón y Cajal, Carreró de Morant and part of Calle Mayor – as well as the town hall square, and will involve resurfacing to improve driver and pedestrian safety, plus installing low-energy street-lighting.

The Marina Alta's other 32 towns and villages have a balance of around €14.2m to apply for similar works they intend to complete before the year 2024.
