'UK TOURISTS ARE SAFER HERE'
Regional government insists Costa Blanca is a safe destination for British holidaymakers and continues to promote itself in Great Britain
REGIONAL government tourism boss Francesc Colomer has this week insisted: "Our data and arguments to show the British market that tourists even can be safer here than in their own country.”
For this reason, the Valencian government is continuing to work with companies to promote sumer tourism and his department is spending €500,000 on an agreement to carry out international promotional events, which will include the UK.
Regional president Ximo Puig noted that tourism represents 15% of GDP in the Valencia region. He called on the national government to continue working to put an end to the restrictions on British tourism and ‘engage in dialogue and avoid confrontation’.
THE VALENCIA government remains committed to task of convincing the UK that the region is a safe destination for British tourists.
Despite the bombshell announcement at the end of July by Boris Johnson’s government that they were advising Britons not to travel to Spain and imposing 14 days quarantine on their return, the Valencia tourism authorities are continuing with promotional activities in the UK.
Regional secretary for tourism Francesc Colomer explained that they are spending €500,000 on an agreement with the regional chambers of commerce so they can carry out promotional events, which will include the UK.
President of the regional chambers of commerce, José Vicente Morata said they were in contact with their counterparts in London, ‘who had responded favourably’ to the idea of holding a presentation about the Valencia region in the English capital.
Sr Morata insisted that the region was safe and had ‘health security’.
Sr Colomer said they will continue to work with quality companies to promote tourism.
“This is the time to show that we are a safe destination,” he stated. “Diplomatic negotiations are taking place and we are giving our data and arguments to show the British market that tourists can be even safer here than in their own country.”
