Energy ‘all from green sources’ in a decade
New law will slash time to set up clean energy plants
VALENCIA president Ximo Puig this week made the bold statement that the region will be in a position to supply all its energy from renewable sources by the end of this decade.
A decree of emergency measures will be approved in the next session of the Valencia parliament to smooth the path for renewable energy power plants to be set up, he stated.
This will reduce the time taken to carry out the procedures by up to a year.
He stated that they are creating an ‘administrative scenario’ to encourage the installation of solar power plants and wind farms.
The measures have been drawn up by a number of different regional departments so excessive bureaucracy can be sidelined.
Sr Puig said this will allow green energy plants to be set up all three provinces – Alicante, Valencia and Castellón.
He revealed that there are 32 projects in the pipeline for new wind farms, which will allow the region to more than double the energy produced from this source. Of these, 22 are at an ‘advanced stage’.
He added that there are also a number of ‘important solar power plants’ at the planning stage but did not give exact figures.
Sr Puig made the statement while visiting the Cofrentes wind farm on Tuesday.
He noted that the company Elecnor invested €53 million in setting up the plant, which has been operating since 2012 and was recently expanded. It produces enough energy to supply 43,000 homes a year and has led to the creation of 300 jobs.
