Guardamar castle shows this month

-

THE SEASON of activities at the castle in Guardamar del Segura continues tonight (Friday, August 7) with a vivid production of the Fernando de Rojas play La Celestina, using puppets.

Published in 1499, the book is considered to be one of the greatest works of all Spanish literature.

On Saturday, August 8, two dancers and a musician from the Otra Danza company will present Diez Sonetos (10 sonnets). Their live performances will interpret the verses of Spanish Golden Age poet Garcilaso de la Vega to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Both shows start at 22.00 and tickets are €5.

On Tuesday, August 18, Guardamar’s fourth flamenco festival, consisting of two shows at the municipal sports centre, will begin.

Vanessa Teba will pay homage to the women who sing flamenco music (cantaoras), who need great bravery to overcome their suffering from the pitfalls of society in order to express their art.

The festival continues on Wednesday, August 19 with the dancer Natalia Marquez presenting her show Flamenco y punto, with Fran Tornero on guitar, Luis Antonio Chacón and Luis Fernández on vocals, and Alejandro Solano on percussion.

Dance, guitar and singing combine to create a unique spectacle that fuses the traditional and the most current flamenco. Tickets to either show are €5 and both performances start at 21.30.

Finally, the Agrupació Musical de Guardamar band will be playing on August 22 at 21.00 at the sports centre

Tickets for all the above are available from www.agendaguardamar.com
