Fabio Miano Trio

A classical pianist by training – which he started aged eight, in Canada – this musical genius from Brindisi (Italy) has been studying jazz since he was 12 after moving to Belgium.

And a lifetime with his fingers on the keys means Fabio Miano's prowess is hard to beat.

Living in Spain for the past 41 years after a four-year stretch in Montréal, Québéc and three years in Toronto has not curbed Fabio's wanderlust: He's been seen performing all over the world, accompanying singers and musicians of the size of Jeanne Lee, Grant Stewart, Ron Jackson, Chris Flory, Jesse Davis, Peter Bernstein and others.

Now performing as part of a trio and with three hit albums on the shelves – Reflections, A Tribute to Duke Pearson and New York Quintet – he's a regular on our shores, having also been on show at Jávea Jazz.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 27

Wax & Boogie

Drew Davies

This foursome has become one of the best-loved acts on the Rhythm & Blues, BoogieWoogie and Blues scene, representing featuring Spain at the European Blues Challenge in Italy in 2016 and no stranger to our corner of the planet. Drawing on the purest Afro-American jazz traditions, the powerful voice of Ster Wax (Esther Ibáñez when off duty), the virtuoso skills of pianist David Giorcelli, master drummer Reginald Vilardell and bassist Oriol Fontanals – described as a 'guy with a groove that's the envy of all jazz musicians' – they never fail to get bums on seats at any festival either side of the pond.

The icing on the cake at their Dénia show is British tenor sax legend Drew Davies, a regular stage companion to the likes of Mike Sánchez and Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne who takes his inspiration from 1940s' Swing and 1950s' Rhythm & Blues.
