Support for Beirut victims

- By Jack Troughton

Teulada Moraira Lions Club is part of an international relief operation to help the people of Beirut who lost homes, possessions and loved ones in the devastating explosion.

It is appealing for donations to contribute to the worldwide fund raising campaign being mounted by the Lions Club International Foundation; providing much-needed funds to rebuild and re-house victims of the devastating explosion in the city on August 4.

More than 300,000 Lebanese have been displaced as a result of the tragic event; more than 200 people died and many more are missing. The campaign - in partnership with Lions of Lebanon - has already provided $10,000 for immediate relief for children, families and communities struggling to meet everyday needs. The target is to support 3,000 families by Christmas.

Anyone who would like to donate to the appeal can do so via Teulada Moraira Lions’ GoFundMe page. Those happier dealing in cash can drop off a donation at the Lions Den charity shop, clearly marking the envelope ‘Beirut Appeal’.

‘We try to support local charities, but when a humanitarian crisis such as this occurs, many of us feel we would like to help these poor people whose world has been turned upside down through no fault of their own,” CBN was told.

The Lions Den is located close to supermarket Pepe La Sal in the Centro Commercial in Moraira. The GoFundMe page is at www.gofundme.com /f/teulada-moraira-lions - this can also be accessed via the club’s Facebook and website www.tmlions.com.
