THE MYSTERY OF WOMEN

A NEW art exhibition at Javea’s Soler Blasco Museum combines sculpture and paintings to explore the ‘enigma’ of women.

Artist and art teacher Maria Jose Soriano Melchor opened the exhibition and it remains on display to the public at the museum until September 6. Maria, who obtained a degree in fine arts at San Carlos in Valencia, said the project presented a challenge for the viewer.

The exhibition is called ‘Enigmas: de lo corporeo a lo intangible’ - or Enigmas: from the corporeal to the intangible’ and the artist said focussed on the female form.

She said she worked in the abstract form, using contrasts and liked to use ‘earthy’ colours combined with reds, greens and blues.

JOSÉ MANAUT EXHIBITION ROJALES

DISCOVER THE MYSTERIES OF EELS

An exhibition about the European eel and its relationship with the Vega Baja area is on at the Rojales museum of archaeology.

This remarkable species, which is classified as critically endangered, covers over 4,000km across the Atlantic in its larval form to reach the Mediterranean coasts.

Having developed into eels, some go up rivers or stay in coastal lagoons and wetlands until they reach adulthood and return to the Sargasso Sea to reproduce.

Their remarkable lives and how they are closely connected with local farms and their irrigation canals are explained in seven informative panels which will be on display at the museum until September 18.
