Mobile recycling depot returns
THE MOBILE ‘ ecoparque’ recycling depot has resumed its service around the Vega Baja.
It is provided by the waste management consortium, Vega Baja Sostenible, which is made up of all 27 municipalities in the area and the provincial and regional governments.
“This service enables residents to further improve their responsible attitude towards recycling, which is an important environmental challenge and the circular economy is going to be a fundamental pillar of our future development,” said consortium president Teresa Belmonte, who is also mayoress of Bigastro.
She explained that it can be used to deposit other domestic waste that cannot be disposed of in the grey, yellow ( light packaging), blue ( paper/ card) or green ( glass) containers.
The depot is fitted with numerous recipients specifically for particular items, including fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, car batteries, tyres, paints, cleaning products, chemically contaminated packaging, ink cartridges, x- rays, domestic appliances, mineral oils, plastics, metals, textiles, used vegetable oils, large items or furniture, wood, plant cuttings, and rubble from small building jobs.
“Some of these are very contaminating and can worsen the quality of the environment but they can be thrown away in the ecoparque so that they can be treated properly later,” said Sra Belmonte.
She also announced they are working on a scheme using a mobile application so that users can obtain discounts, and a user registration system so that all the recycled materials can be monitored.
The consortium has also obtained a second ecoparque which will be used to provide environmental education at schools.
“We know that education at early ages is important to change habits, and environ
mental awareness is needed immediately as climate change is a reality,” she added.
The ecoparque is open from 08.30 to 14.30 and will be in Re
dován today ( Friday) and Almoradí tomorrow.
