The Entertainers: top of the charity pops

- By Jack Troughton

GOOD time band The Entertainers dedicate their talent to raising money for charity and step out for Jalón Valley Help on September 30.

The evening in the gardens of the Los Arcos Restaurant at Pedregeur will also see the formal unveiling of their CD ‘ Let the Music Play’ – which goes on sale at Help charity shops in Alcalalí, Jalón and Orba afterwards.

Recording and production costs were sponsored by financial advisors Blevin Franks; allowing ‘ every penny’ of the € 10 sale price to benefit Help at a time all charities are feeling the pinch because of the Covid- 19 crisis.

A nine- piece vocal band, The Entertainers sing to backing tracks produced by musical director David Rohl who started in the music business at the tender age of 15 and now enjoying retirement on the Costa Blanca is putting the skills he leaned as a recording artist, record producer and sound engineer to work again.

He said The Entertainers was formed to help the community. “The specific reason was that I am very keen to support Jalón Valley Help or any other charity; we don’t perform for a fee but, basically, for the charity.

“It is enjoyable, fun, and there’s no pressure to earn a living out of it – there are a lot of bands and groups that do it for a living, but we don’t. Help arranges the gigs and we perform.”

In normal circumstances the band plays at two types of event – dinner dances, which are on hold because of the pandemic, and concerts where audiences are sat down to enjoy the dramatic big sound.

At concerts the band plays a medley of Queen hits, the Spice Girls, and there are memorable big numbers like Bonnie Tyler’s ‘ Total Eclipse of the Heart’, Tears for Fears hit ‘’ Everybody Wants to Rule the

World’, and Bruce Springsteen’s ‘ Dancing in the Dark’. The CD features 17 toe- tapping songs.

Dave was able to record the band at his studio and confessed: “There are talents here that have blown me away; and I have worked with some fairly famous singers.”

Tickets for the Los Arcos show are € 10 and available via eventsjvh@ gmail. com or call 634 311 649, guests are asked to bring their own food but to buy drinks at the bar – the email address can also be used to order Let the Music Play by The Entertainers.
