La Siesta charity lending library reopens

- By Barry Wright bwright@ cbnews. es

FOLLOWING an enforced closure of six months, La Siesta Charity Lending Library reopened on Tuesday, September 6.

The enthusiastic team of volunteers who keep the library running efficiently week in and week out are looking forward to welcoming existing and new members through their doors in the annexe of the Age Concern Costa Blanca Sur day centre situated in Calle Paganini, La Siesta urbanisation, Torrevieja.

Although the vast array of in excess of

8,000 books - covering fiction and all aspects on non- fiction - are still available for lending, one of the Covid precautions introduced by the volunteers is a weeklong quarantine for all returned books. This means that books returned one week will not be available for lending until the following week.

Additional measures are the compulsory wearing of masks,

hand sanitising, social distancing, and registration of all visitors.

Membership costs € 2, plus 25 cents for each book taken out. Surplus books are also on sale at six for € 1.

“During the lockdown, reading became an important escape for many people and hopefully those who did not already

have the reading habit will continue to do so. We are glad to be able to welcome existing and new members, who will, as always, be greeted with a happy smile,” said the volunteers.

All proceeds are donated to Age Concern Costa Blanca Sur. The library is open every Tuesday from 10.30- 12.30.
