LOCAL police found a nightclub open over the bank holiday weekend in Alicante city – even though these establishments have been closed down due to the Covid19 pandemic.

A police patrol which was passing through the area noticed a number of cars parked outside the discothèque at 03.45 on Monday morning.

When they got out of their vehicle officers saw that lights were on inside and they could hear music coming from the interior.

Upon entering the nightclub on Avenida del Padre Ángel Escapa, they found 17 people inside.

According to the police report, none of them were wearing face masks or maintaining social distancing and they were consuming alcoholic drinks.

The owner of the club has been reported for failing to follow the emergency measures brought in by the regional government which are designed to stop the spread of coronavirus. He faces a fine of up to € 60,000 and the establishment has been closed down.

The revellers also face fines for failing to wear face masks.

The previous evening local police found two bars had stayed open after the 01.00 closure deadline and the owners also face fining procedures.

Over the fourday fiesta period local police were called out to 64 parties which were being held in private homes in Alicante city after neighbours had complained of noise.

They also had to break up no less than 30 outdoor bottle parties, which have been made illegal under the antiCovid legislation.

Regional police

The regional police force shut down a restaurant in Valencia province which was operating without a licence.

Officers noted that the owner had been refused permission to open by the authorities.

Additionally, all the staff were working without contracts.

Next to the restaurant, the officers found a cheese making factory which also turned out

to be illegal.

They noted that they were working in ‘ very unhygienic conditions’ and no health and safety measures were being observed.

The officers seized 21,000 kilos of cheese and other milkbased products.
