Women's guide
ORIHUELA town hall department for equality has published a guide aimed raising awareness and protecting women who have been trafficked.
Entitled Cómo Te Trata ( how are you treated), the guide complements the ‘ state pact against gender violence’ which was adopted in the municipal equality between women and men and the citizens equality plan 20182021.
At the presentation, councillor for equality Almudena Baldó stated: “We started this campaign for all of the local population.
“It provides information about what trafficking is, how to detect it, the new ways of recruiting victims, and what resources there are available ( to combat it) in the Vega Baja.”
In 2019, Orihuela town hall joined the ‘ network of municipalities free from human trafficking with the end of sexual exploitation’. For this reason they produced the guide as a means of exposing this exploitation as well as violence towards women that continues
in the 21st century. This ‘ violence’ takes the form of sexual exploitation, forced labour, arranged marriage, and illegal organ trafficking, amongst others.
The councillor highlighted the town hall’s commitment to give visibility and promote awareness of the subject, in addition to preventing of any form of violence against women.
“Our goal is to contribute to preserving the right to life, integrity, dignity and freedom of people, making all citizens aware of the importance of Orihuela being a municipality free of trafficking and prostitution,” said Almudena Baldó.
