Learn to listen with Momo

- By Barry Wright bwright@ cbnews. es

THE ANNA Roca theatre company’s awardwinning adaptation of the children’s book Momo is taking place at the Palau Altea on Sunday, October 18 at 16.30 and 18.00.

The production, which is in Spanish, is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by the late, awardwinning, German author Michael Ende.

The production and book look at the concept of time and how it is used by humans in modern societies.

The show tells the story of three very peculiar characters, who live in an abandoned botanical garden. They are waiting for an audience, in order to explain the history of Momo a girl who has the wonderful ability to listen to others and help them to humanise their lives. Especially when the ‘ grey men’ decide to take over one of the most precious assets that human beings possess: time.

“How long does it take you to stop for a while and dedicate yourself to being, without doing anything, distracted, enchanted, watching people, listening to the sounds of the street?” aks the Anna Roca theatre company.

“We live and educate our children quickly. We want them to speak English, Russian, Chinese… to play football, to be actors and to be good at everything. We prepare them for the future, so that they have a good job, a good house, a good car. But we don't educate them to play freely, to learn to relax, to stop before a friend and just to talk and listen. Thanks to Momo, by Micheal Ende, we have found the source of inspiration to give body to this idea. Who better to give value to the verb ‘ to listen?” they add.

T he capacity is limited to 50 persons per show and tickets – which are € 11 plus € 1 booking fee – are available from the venue box office.
