Daylight beach killing solved
Assailant ran up behind victim and shot him in the head
Guardia Civil solve crime where victim was shot in the head from behind by his assailant
AN EXECUTION- style killing in broad daylight on the beach in El Campello in September 2019 has been solved, according to the Guardia Civil.
Two men, a Colombian and a Spaniard aged 43 and 39 respectively, have been arrested and charged with the crime, while a third suspect is in prison in Colombia awaiting extradition, reported a spokesman for the force on Wednesday.
The victim was walking near Muchavista beach when his assailant ran up behind him and shot him in the head, then shot him again before escaping at high speed in a car.
Forensics analysed the scene and a few days later the getaway car was found, which turned out to be stolen and after being used it had been repainted black and fitted with false number plates. Biological traces discovered in the vehicle matched samples from the
scene and were enough to identify a suspect.
A search of his home found three firearms and two silencers, one of them a 9mm pistol identical to the model
used to kill the victim.
He was arrested in Barcelona in December and confessed he had committed the crime with help from his brother.
The brother had fled to his native Colombia where he was arrested on arrival by the local authorities on suspicion of a previous attempted homicide.
Both siblings had travelled together from Madrid to Alicante and stayed near the victim’s home for five days while they studied his movements looking for the ideal time to strike, explained the spokesman.
In June this year the Guardia Civil identified and arrested a third suspect in Muchamiel, who had found the place to spy on the victim, rented the home the killers stayed at and supplied the weapons that were used, he said.
The investigation concluded that the person in Muchamiel had hired the two brothers to kill the victim in order to ‘ settle a score’.
The suspects are charged with murder, illegal possession of weapons and falsifying documentation.
