Anglo- Spanish gang busted by armed officers
Perfectly structured criminal organisation was in place
A JOINT British and Spanish gang ‘ dedicated principally to gun running and drug smuggling’ has been taken down in Murcia region, according Guardia Civil.
A total of 15 arrests have been made, noted a spokesman for the force.
An operation into the suspects to the was launched last year ‘ with the aim of identifying and dismantling’ the criminal organisation.
Officers discovered that a ‘ perfectly structured’ gang was operating – and that each of the members had a clearly defined function.
They noted that the gang had the means and logistics to carry out criminal activity of different types.
The detectives found that some of the suspects had criminal records – and were experienced arms and drugs traffickers.
After identifying their homes the Guardia Civil asked a judge to authorise raids on the properties.
The operation involved around 50 armed officers working with air support.
They entered six properties in Murcia and nearby Las Torres de Cotillas.
Officers seized explosives’ detonators, ammunition, and ‘ abundant measures’ of methamphetamine and other drugs including MDMA and marijuana.
The spokesman explained that last month they dismantled one of their marijuana plantations which contained 1,150 plants.
The suspects have been charged with a variety offences including belonging to
a criminal organisation, gun running, drug smuggling, forging documents, robbery and fraud, amongst other crimes.
The spokesman stated that the force has also ‘ cleared up around 30 crimes’.
He said that the suspects hail from Spain and Britain and are aged between 22 and 63 years old.
The alleged leader of the gang has been remanded in custody.
