Gearing up for All Saints’ Day

TOWN halls all over Alicante province are taking measures at cemeteries to prevent the spread of Covid- 19 as people attend the graves of their loved ones.

Visitors to San Fulgencio cemetery next week must have their temperature taken and give their contact details to get in.

The requirements will be in force between Monday, October 26 and All Saints’ Day on Sunday ( November 1), explained councillor Josefa Sampere.

She said Protección Civil volunteers will be applying the regulations from the moment the cemetery opens at 09.00 each day.

Anyone with a temperature of 37 º C or above will not be permitted to enter.

Other restrictions include only one person in the toilets at a time, no more than 100 people in the whole cemetery and a maximum visiting time of 45 minutes.

There will be a separate entrance and exit and a specific route must be followed around the interior.

People must also avoid crowding, keep two metres apart from each other and wear face masks at all times.

“Not following the rules will result in the premises being evacuated or even closed in an extreme situation,” added the councillor.

Calpe town hall has a special Covid- 19 protocol in place.

On November 1, numbers allowed in the main cemetery will be restricted to 500 and 200 in the new cemetery at any one time.

Families will be allocated one hour to pay their respects – at the entrance each group will be asked for a contact number, have their temperature taken by council staff.

Similar measures are in place on October 29, 30 and 31, when both cemeteries are open to allow cleaning and to arrange flowers at graves.

Across the four days, the cemeteries are open from 08.00 to 22.00 – and people will be asked to use sanitising gel, wear a face mask and follow a ‘ traffic system’ to allow social distancing.
