Residents submit their project proposals
Council officers will now evaluate ideas which could be in the 2021 budget
TORREVIEJA residents have presented 86 suggestions for the town hall’s ‘ participative budget’ scheme.
The council has stated that viable schemes will be included in the local authority’s spending plan for next year.
Councillors for innovation and the economy – Ricardo Recuero and Domingo Paredes – gave a press conference on Tuesday to outline the proposals.
Sr Recuero explained that they vary from investment in infrastructure to improvements in services offered by the council.
Each proposal will now have to be evaluated by council officers.
According to the councillor, residents who presented projects will be informed of the progress of their scheme.
He said that the ‘ star submission’ was the proposal to
‘ create a space to hold congresses and fairs’.
In more general terms, 40% called for investment in roads, new parks, walkways and sports installations.
A total of 30% of the proposals asked for improvements to the rubbish collection and street cleaning service,
cleaning of public buildings and general repairs around the municipality.
Around 15% of the residents called for the construction of cycle paths, an increase in pedestrianised streets, improved street lighting, etc.
The remainder outlined
‘ innovative schemes’ for the town such as the creation of a new image for Torrevieja and the setting up of mobile phone apps to carry out council procedures.
Councillor Paredes stated that there was no spending cap for the proposals.
