Wings over El Hondo
The photographic exhibition ‘ Alas en los humedales del sur’ ( wings in the southern wetlands) was inaugurated this week at El Hondo natural park interpretation centre. The exhibition, by the photographer Lola López, contains 20 images of birds from natural areas in the south of Alicante province and is open until December 30.
Elche councillor for the environment Esther Díez ( pictured below), highlighted the uniqueness of El Hondo natural park, and stated that in addition to its ‘ artistic aspect’, the exhibition has the ‘ objective of giving value and publicity to biodiversity’.
Vicent Sansano, president of the park’s governing board said Lola López is a ‘ master of
all nature- related photographic techniques’.
A Murcia resident, López thanked the organisers for the opportunity to exhibit her works and expressed her ‘ satisfaction at being able to have her work on display in a first rate space’. The photographer explained that her first contact with the park was in 2013, and since then has ‘ visited regularly with her camera to record the wetland’s fauna’. “I hope the images help to conserve these species, some of which are in danger of extinction,” she added.
“Lola López’s work permits us to learn about the varieties that inhabit El Hondo, take greater pride and be aware of the significance of the ecosystem that we have here, within this unique place that the municipalities of Elche and Crevillente have the fortune to share” added Vicent Sansano.
The interpretation centre is open Monday to Friday from 09.00- 14.00, Saturdays from 12.00- 14.00 and Sundays and public holidays from 09.00- 14.00.
The park entrance is at Azarbe de Afuera, San Felipe Neri.
