Under new management
A NEW company has been hired to manage day centres for the senior citizens in Orihuela, announced social services councillor Almudena Baldó.
The town hall has several such centres in the municipality’s rural districts, as well as one in the city and one in Orihuela Costa (Alameda del Mar). The contract was awarded to Eulen Servicios Sociosanitarios SA for three years for a total of €778,707.
It requires them to manage the social-health care, reception and workshops at the centres, which are there to provide residents over the age of 60 with spaces for recreation, social interaction and creative activities, as well as preventing dependency by helping them to lead healthy lifestyles, maintain basic abilities for daily life and make use of new technologies. The terms include providing 892 hours of physiotherapy, 1,500 hours of podology and 7,360 hours of various workshops, including dance, computing, theatre, cognitive improvement and handicrafts.
Children’s centre repaired
Repairs have been completed on Orihuela’s early attention centre (CAT) for children with developmental difficulties, parts of which were seriously damaged by the September 2019 flooding. The work principally consisted of fixing the façade, enlarging the building’s ventilation outlets and completely reforming the patio, which included improving its waterproofing, drainage and replacing
the paving, explained councillor Baldó.
“Being able to provide therapies outdoors is important for many children, especially now since Covid-19 makes ventilation and fresh air so important,” she said.
The repairs took three weeks to complete and cost €14,598. CAT director Ana Salinas said they were very grateful for these ‘necessary repairs’, which will ‘certainly make it better for providing the daily therapies we offer’.
