Brexit help for Valencia exporters

Advice for businesses sending goods to the UK

- By Dave Jones djones@cbnews.es

THE REGIONAL government has set up a system so companies can receive advice on post-Brexit exports to the UK.

Firms can contact the Ivace business competitiveness institute for information.

This can be received via telephone on 96 120 96 00; email at Brexit.ivace@gva.es; or videoconferences via the service Contacta, which they note are held ‘periodically’.

According to the Valencia government, the initiative will allow companies to understand the new regulations and they will be guided on how they can continue to send their products to the British market.

Director general for international affairs in Valencia, María Dolores Parra said it was very important for businesses to be given help ‘firsthand’. Sra Parra noted that the UK has traditionally been the fifth most important destination for exports from the

Valencia region.

“We want to help companies get to grips with the new situation which has arisen after the UK left the European Union,” she stated.

She noted that businesses can also consult reports on the

Ivace website on the impact of Brexit on commercial relations and ‘useful links’ to be able to develop exports to the UK.

Sra Parra reminded that the transport of merchandise to Britain was now subject to ‘procedures’ and red tape.

She added that to reduce the impact on the country’s economy, the UK had decided to introduce the border controls ‘step by step’, which would be in three stages – in January, April and July.

More information can be found via the Ivace website at www.ivace.es/index.php/es

British residents

However, the Valencia government has not yet given more information on the service for British residents living in the region which was promised at the end of 2020.

At the time regional president Ximo Puig said that a telephone hotline would be set up for Britons to give them information and support following the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31.

It was designed to offer ‘all the information about the new situation’, he noted at the time.
