Visor Fest back with a blast in September

- By Barry Wright bwright@cbnews.es

IN these strange and challenging times we all need something to hold on to or look forward to; without these our internal flame can begin to lose it brightness.

Music and books are two such things, the expectation of a new tome by a favourite author, or a highly-anticipated new release by a recording artist, can help to perk up the most embattled mind.

Familiarising ourselves with the above mentioned book or music when they are released is essentially a homebased activity, but how about thinking a little further ahead and making plans to get out and see some live music when the veil of this, what seems to be eternal, pandemic rises.

Would September 17-18 be too optimistic a date to expect to be getting out and safely seeing live music again?

Those who are hoping that the above date is achievable should start rubbing their knees in anticipation of Visor Fest, which is scheduled to take place at Parque de la Aigüera in Benidorm over that very weekend.

The event organisers say: “Visor Fest combines the musical past with the present in the city of eternal summer: Benidorm.”

The festival’s remit is to give music lovers the opportunity to see international bands and performers that first came to prominence in 80s and 90s who still have a fresh, enduring and exciting dynamic.

Visor Fest predominantly caters to fans of rock, pop and electronic music, but also keeps an eager eye open for other genres that may suit the ambience of the event.

The festival prides itself on the fact that no performances overlap, allowing fans to enjoy all the performances without having to miss the encore from one act in order to catch the start of another.

In the words of the organisers, they are: “Fleeing the madness that sometimes involves running between stages and missing many of the bands and activities on offer.”

So, what musical gems have been lined up for this year’s event, thereby providing us with a light to help to get through the current curfews, lockdowns and other essential inconveniences?

In order to allow each band to play a full set and avoid overlaps, the festival features just eight acts, but what acts they are – Teenage Fanclub, James, The Waterboys, Mudhoney, New Model Army, The Posies, will be ably supported by the

Spanish outfits Lagartija Nick and Australian Blonde.

If those names do not immediately light a bright spark in gig-goers hearts then the implications of the pandemic have had a more profound effect on their senses than expected.

Tickets covering both days are currently on sale for €71.50, including expenses, or €57.20, including expenses, for people with reduced mobility and minors aged from 12-17 years.
