Markets suspended
BENIDORM town hall has announced that the weekly Foietes market has been suspended for as long as the latest Covid-19 measures issued by the regional government remain in force.
Under normal circumstances the market takes place every Wednesday in the Mercasa area.
Councillor for commerce Lorenzo Martínez explained: “These measures have been taken in view of the latest Covid-19 measures that have been decreed by the Valencia region government that, amongst other things, limit social encounters in public spaces and follow the recommendations of specialists.”
Initially the suspension is set to be in effect until at least February 10. From that date ‘the return of the market will be subject to the instructions given by the regional government, depending on how the health crisis evolves’.
“During the first wave of the pandemic the market was also suspended, once it became possible for its resumption important measures were taken to ensure compliance with hygiene and social distancing regulations at all times, this was achieved by adapting the market to the new requirements,” said the councillor.
“Its reopening took place progressively, prioritising stalls selling food.”
Another market to feel the pinch of the latest coronavirus restrictions is the one at in Polop every Sunday.
The town hall has said: “In view of the current health situation and in view of the good of the general population, the decision has been taken to cancel the weekly Sunday market until the situation improves and allows the activity to resume.”
