Mayor becomes party voice

- By Jack Troughton jtroughton@cbnews.es

MAYOR of Jávea José Chulvi has been chosen as the new deputy spokesperson for the Socialist party (PSOE) in the regional parliament.

The politician, who is already a regional deputy in Les Corts, was chosen by the national executive of the party, in a meeting chaired by Ximo Puig, president of the Valencia authority.

He will replace Toñi Serna in the post, who was appointed secretary for cooperation and democratic quality in the ministry of transparency of the regional government.

ORIHUELA local police have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of several counts of gender violence, sexual assault, kidnapping, assault and violating the terms of a court sentence.

The 112 emergency number received a call last Wednesday to report that a woman had been taken by force to the court for gender violence cases, in order to make her withdraw a restraining order. The aggressor was said to be waiting for her near the courthouse. Officers managed to find him quickly and after confirming a few details they arrested him and their domestic violence unit provided support to the victim. She told them that the day before he had violated a restraining order, abducted, attacked and raped her, then taken her to the courts to make her withdraw an accusation against him. The suspect has been accused of similar crimes by his previous partner, and a court has ordered him to be held in prison on remand.
