Learning about road safety

-

The finishing touches are being made to a new road safety education park in Albir, located in the Sant Pere park, opposite the health centre.

The project, which had a grant of €232,000 was carried out through a mixed training and employment programme and was visited by mayor Vicente Arques during the week.

The objective is to teach children about road safety and the meaning of road signs. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic all children’s playgrounds have been closed so the official opening will not take place until ‘it is safe to do so’.

A 51-year-old man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for failing to register 27 female workers at a brothel located on the N-332 road in Alfaz del Pi.

The establishment in question underwent an inspection on May 28, 2015. Inspectors discovered that 27 of the 35 employees of the brothel, who worked 12-hour shifts from 17.00 to 05.00, were not registered with the social security. Alicante provincial court considered it proven that the defendant, of Colombian nationality, employed the women without registering them with the social security in order to avoid his tax obligations.

The accused made a plea bargain with the prosecution at the beginning of the trial in which he pleaded guilty to an offence against the rights of foreign workers and accepted the reduced sentence proposed by the prosecution as opposed to the initially proposed jail term of three years.

In addition to the ninemonth prison sentence, which is suspended for a period of two years on condition that he does not reoffend, the convicted person must pay a fine
