Residents’ worry over burglaries
Police say they have increased patrols in the area
LOCAL police have asked residents to call them if they see anything suspicious following a spate of break-ins on La Nucía urbanisations.
A British resident who has lived in Spain for over four decades contacted Costa Blanca News about burglaries at El Tossal
“There has been a noticeable spike since last year but in the last two or three weeks alone, I know of nine that have taken place here,” he stated.
“To a degree they appear to target unoccupied properties”.
However, with restrictions still currently in place allowing only residents into the country, it has left many second homeowners worried about their properties.
During the latest burglary on El Tossal the entire window frame had been removed.
The Guardia Civil were called and informed the neighbour that a report would need to be filed at the station the following day.
However, the neighbour questioned: “How on earth can I file a report of what is missing when it’s not even my property and the owner can’t get here to list what is missing?”
Residents noted that there is only one way in and out of the urbanisation with cameras positioned on the lamppost at the entrance, so they are puzzled why the culprits have not been identified.
Last month La Nucía local police posted an alert on their social media platform, warning residents of two urbanisations – Bello Horizonte
and El Tossal – about ‘several’ break-ins.
They informed residents that they had increased patrols and activated drone surveillance in the area.
They also reminded people that ‘many arrests’ occur when residents contact them ‘if they notice something strange in the area’.
