Health centre controversy

- Circulo Podemos El Campello

Dear Editor,

Whilst at Spanish language class I left my very old green Raleigh ladies bike outside the Escola de Musica in Guardamar BUT didn’t lock it (long story).

It must have looked abandoned because when I went back it wasn’t there.

I really don’t think my old bike would be attractive to most people – but I am attached to it.

I want to offer a 50-euro reward to anyone who found it.

Just so people know, this happened on Thursday, November 26 at 11.30.

It is a very old bike in petrol blue with basket and one side pannier and 12 gears, and a double crank derailier.

I have been looking at local auctions and I reported it lost and have the paperwork.

It is not a ‘cool’ or valuable bike and I think it could just be dumped somewhere.

I am offering the reward because it has sentimental value for me and I would dearly love to find it.

Thanks for your help,

Campello January 29

Surprising events took place in the plenary session of El Campello Town Hall in January. Podemos presented two motions which did not have the support of the three party coalition in power.

The first of these motions called on all political parties to assume the ethical commitment to ask for the immediate resignation of those who breached the health vaccination protocols.

Furthermore, if a case of improper vaccination were to occur in the municipal corporation, the municipal services would initiate the necessary procedures to determine the corresponding administrative, civil and criminal responsibilities, as we believe that these are possible crimes of administrative malpractice and influence peddling.

While in other municipalities these same parties are asking for the resignation or suspending their officials, in El Campello they do not want to hear about the matter.

The second motion called for the reinforcement of the primary health care service in all health centres in the Valencia region and the reopening of the Muchavista health centre.

It seems unheard of that after supporting a collection of signatures to ask for the reopening of the health centre, they refuse to bring this request to the plenary session.

We could come to think that rather than seeking the reopening of said health centre, PP and Cs were only looking for political gain.

THE ARTS Society Marina Alta held its first AGM on Zoom on February 4 followed by an inaugural Zoom presentation from the UK by Gavin Plumley.

The event was organised by the committee led by Andrew Ward, and supported by Wang Choy, The Arts Society training guru located in the Netherlands. Upwards of 57 members and guests Zoom’d in on 41 screens with an additional few looking in from the wings.

It is hard to remember that in February 2020 we were having a quite normal year and were able to mix socially to celebrate the enthusiasm of our members and the hard work of our committee. This season is different and has required a very different approach. On the day we were pleased to welcome new members Gordon and Carol Sellars, increasing our membership.

Outgoing chair, Rod Anderton, thanked the committee for their tireless work, planning, replanning and organising meetings in varying formats, and with ever changing regulations.

Rod particularly thanked Helen Granville and John Reynolds for their input into our first class website, Jane Cobb for tracking the ever-increasing membership and Peter Eales for keeping the society on a secure financial footing. Laine Widmar was acknowledged for the society’s resplendent and timely newsletter and for contacting and organising the excellent lecturers from the UK.

Rod had great pleasure in being able to hand a most viable and successful Arts Society to its new chair, David Glover.

David, who has been part of the committee since the beginning, accepted his new appointment which was then confirmed with a show of hands from the membership. We trust the society will benefit from a different approach in difficult circumstances.

The format for meetings in the first half of the year will be by Zoom, and we hope we can return to some form of normality later in the year. The society has a full programme of excellent lectures arranged for the 2021 season which are listed on our website.

Thanks were extended to all members, new and old, for their continued support and we are committed to providing excellence in our productions.

Grateful thanks went to our sponsors, Blevins Franks, Lextax and Avalon, for the continued support.

The next Zoom presentation will be on Thursday, March 11 with Arantxa Sardinia: Sorolla Enlightens Manhattan.
