Scrabble challenge

- By Christine Watkins of Almoradí Scrabble Club

ISN’T it great to wake up to the sound of birds each morning? Gives you that ‘feel good factor’. Also another sign of spring. Sadly my daffodils still haven't materialised, although I do have stalks. Hope the birds don't get to them before me!

Following on from last week’s game, I have picked up an interesting selection. However I can’t get much more than a six letter word. But might I make use of the ‘Z’ to gain a good score? What do you say?

CAMPOVERDE Church in the Community does what it can to serve our community. But we know that there are many wonderful organisations offering specialist help, care and support. That is why, last week we were delighted to be able to distribute cash donations totalling €600 to the three charities we are currently supporting, with each receiving €200. All charities are experiencing the double whammy of a massive increase in demand and a massive decrease in income.

By donating to charities that cover Campoverde, we are able to play our small part in keeping them going. This, of course, is in addition to the Food

Bank, the Help Campaign and our register of Community Volunteers.

The three charities we have supported with cash donations are: MABS, providing help to cancer sufferers and the people closest to them; Samaritans Spain, currently providing mainly telephone help for anyone feeling desperate, anxious or alone; and HELP Vega Baja, supporting people in need and other likeminded charities.

Each of these has their own websites and Facebook pages, where you can find details of how you can contribute to them directly and/or volunteer.

We made without the active help and generosity of the people and businesses of Campoverde. The vast majority of the money donated came from funds from our book trolleys, memory trees, Christmas carol singing, donations from local businesses, and the many other activities we undertake as and when we can.

You can be assured that every euro you donate to the church is used to help local people. None of the people involved in the church receive any money whatsoever, not even expenses! All time and energy is donated free of charge because, as Christians, that is what we are called to do.
