Alfaz Fantasy Football League

- By Eric Malpus

WEEK 20. The double Premier League fixtures gave the Alfaz Fantasy Football League another bonanza week for points with the average score almost reaching a high of nearly 40 points, second highest of the season so far. The 19 games provided the A.F.F.L. with a total of 54 goals, 10 clean sheets, 58 yellow cards and after two weeks without red cards the referees were back with a vengeance by sending six players for the early bath. Our Wirrel referee Mike Dean was responsible for three of them of which two have since been overturned.

In the A.F.F.L. Clara's Babes and Sky Blues have been standing strong in the top two places in recent weeks but they have now got a new challenger in 3rd place where John's team Aggies XI have shot up seven places to close the gap on the leaders to 33 points. Down at the other end, Dave's Bogtrotters Rerun are only 11 points away from Len's team Do Better who had a shocking week only scoring 4 points.

In our Junior League Clara's Babes have runaway with this section and it is just a matter of who will be runners-up. Currently Harley's team, Ginger

Ninja have a slender 7 point advantage over Robbie's Alisson Wonderland who apparently had cold feet at the weekend. Olly's 11 can't get away from the bottom spot which they have occupied since the third week of the season.

There is no change at the top of our Mark Carter ladies section, Sky Blues have a comfortable 54 point cushion over Lillian's Press Gang then comes Karen's team, Ceasars Blackcats. Sandra's Scorers have spent the last seven weeks holding up the rest of the girls' teams at the bottom although they are only 11 points away from Anne's Golden Girls.

A lot of Fantasy League managers will be happy to see the return of Spur's Harry Kane and Leicester City's wily old fox Jamie Vardy. All we want now is the return of Manchester City's Sergio Aguero then we will have a full quota of top strikers available in our Golden Boot League. Dave's Patangyangkipperbang are managing to keep last season's winner Old Salfordians at bay with only a 11 point gap between them at the summit. Lee's team Athletico Higgo have made up ground on the two front runners and have moved up one place to 3rd. Down at the foot of the table, Armanello are finding the going tough as they try to catch Len's team Do Beter who are 10 points above them.

The first two teams going into our monthly wine draw for February are our highest scoring team which was Liz's Cookies Crew 61 who bagged 83 points and our lowest scoring team which was Len's team Do Better who only scored 4 points.

At the moment we have not got a sponsor for our manager of the month because of the current situation, however, we will continue with a February manager of the month and hope for the best. Six teams are well in the running with only 5 points between them and they are Cookies Crew, Miles Platting Swifts, Wilkie's Wonders, Milton Keynes F.C.Aggie's XI and Mark's Salford Sausages.

There were no drawn games in our K.O. Cup competition last week, The new favourites Aggie's XI just scraped through beating Bobby's team Real Mayid by 34-33 while our lowest ranked team left in the competition, Star of the Show, (148th) knocked out Kemp United 21-7. The draw for the next round will soon be upon our website and don't forget the F.A. Cup League starts again next week.
