Alfaz joins national cycling network
ALFAZ del Pi has been included in the Red de Ciudades por la Bicicleta (network of bicycle cities/towns) – RCxB – guide which has been produced to commemorate the organisation’s 10th anniversary.
The network contains more than 130 municipalities from throughout Spain and aims to ‘generate a dynamic’ between the towns and cities that ‘facilitates, develops and makes travelling and the use of cycles safer in the urban environment’.
The town recently presented to the association the reasons why it is a member, with the main focus being the ‘spectacular increase’ in the amount of cycle lanes that are due to be installed in the municipality, as well as the work already undertaken regarding the integration of cyclists into the ‘landscape and urban environment’.
According to mayor Vicente Arqués, the town hall has already budgeted for the first phase of the project, which includes the creation of cycle lanes on Avenida de la Constitución, and reconditioning the Camí de la Mar.
The second phase of the project includes the extension of the Camí de la Mar cycle lane from Avenida del Albir to the junction with Camí Vell d’Altea, and the creation of dedicated lanes connecting the municipality with Benidorm, thereby improving cyclists’ safety on this stretch of road that has high levels of traffic.
The town hall notes that it has already initiated expropriation procedures related to the project.
RCxB is working to agree on a strategy to ensure the safe mobility of citizens, using both public and individual modes of transport, with the overall aim of transforming sedentary behaviour, brought on by confinement, into ‘new, healthier habits’.
