WITH the number of active cases of Covid-19 beginning to rise slowly in the region, the Valencia government has opted to relax just some of the restrictions designed to crack down on the virus.

After the meeting of the interdepartmental coronavirus committee yesterday (Thursday), regional president Ximo Puig announced that most of the measures would remain in place until the end of the state of emergency on May 10.

This includes keeping the region’s borders closed, the 22.00-06.00 curfew and the 30% of capacity limit inside bars and restaurants.

He did announce three modifications, which will come into effect from Monday until April 25, the first being that in private settings such as homes, visits from members of one other household will be permitted.

In public, the maximum number of people allowed to gather in the open air will increase

from four to six, which also applies to tables on hostelry establishment terraces and playing sports.

Finally, conditions for visiting care homes are also being relaxed as most of their residents and professionals have been

Covid cases

vaccinated.

The number of active coronavirus cases in the region has risen slightly in the last week.

Regional councillor for health Ana Barceló noted that the figure stood at 3,395 on Wednesday – up from 3,192 on Tuesday, March 30 – a rise of 203.

On Wednesday she noted that there had been 149 new infections in the previous 24 hours – with 11 of these in Castellón province, 51 in Alicante province and 87 in Valencia province.

The number of people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 continues to fall, with 393 patients on the wards around the region – down from 421 eight days previously. There was also a decrease in patients needing treatment in intensive care units – down from 91 to 79 over the same period.

They reported a further 15 deaths from Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours – with 51 patients dying in the previous eight days, taking the overall death toll in the region since the pandemic began to 7,197.
