City prom project completed
THE MARÍTIMO Gómiz promenade at the northern end of Postiguet beach in Alicante city has been extended and a park has been built by the regional government.
Public works councillor Arcadi España said at the opening that it will ‘improve the relationship between the city and the sea’, and residents’ quality of life as well.
He explained that the project has reorganised traffic by remodelling the land between the beach and the tram installations to the connection with Avenida de Villajoyosa road. This was done in order to ‘rationalise’ car usage along the seafront by recovering space for people.
Sr España emphasised that the prolongation of the promenade was the fruit of a ‘shared agenda’ between the regional government and city hall.
With a budget of €413,410, the work started in August 2020 and consisted of remodelling approximately 300 metres of the seafront and adding a park at the northern end. The promenade has an average width of 6m and covers a total of about 2,000m2.
The park covers 3,500m2 and will have furniture made of recycled materials, public lighting, a petanca area and exercise equipment.
There are two pergolas to create shade between the promenade and the park and around the perimeter there are green areas with trees and shrubs.
At the southern end a culde-sac has been created to
allow traffic to turn onto and off the road, and a new road connection will be created to continue the rest of the one
which supports the surrounding traffic, added Sr España.
