Easter a sweet success for Jalón Valley Help
THE EASTER bunny was a welcome visitor for Jalón Valley Help, with the holiday helping boost much-needed funds for the community charity.
Easter in the shops was the first fundraising event of 2021 as with the slight relaxation of Covid restrictions Jalón Valley Help (JVH) has finally been able to re-open its outlets, in Jalón, Alcalalí and Orba, to reconnect with their volunteers, friends and customers and to restore this connection throughout the valleys (Jalón and Orba). Whilst this side of their operation has had to close during lockdown, their volunteers have continued to provide service and support to those in need in the community throughout, as far as they were permitted within the regulations.
In recognition of this light at the end of the lockdown tunnel and in recognition of Easter, JVH arranged for cake sales to be the principle focus at each of their shops last Wednesday, March 31.
Their gratuitous thanks go out to all those volunteer bakers who contributed ‘a fabulous range’ of cakes, including chocolate, lemon drizzle, flapjacks and a traditional simnel cake, as well as some gluten-free choices. So for once, many of the men were happy to go shopping!
No JVH event would be complete without a raffle and last week was no exception with generous donations focused on Easter, with Easter eggs/chocolate chicks and rabbits, cava/wine and
beautiful flowers. The raffle was drawn the following day with a very happy winner of the beautiful bouquet and many reliving chocolate Easter egg fun. Again JVH send their grateful thanks for all the prize donations.
Importantly the event raised a much-appreciated €487 to support their services in the community.
A charity spokesperson commented: “It just shows what we can do when we work together.”
Their next planned event will be a Covid-compliant walking treasure hunt around Orba on Sunday, May 2, so please watch this space and their publication notices for details, Covid rules permitting.
