Torrevieja autism awareness
THE 14TH World Autism Awareness Day took place on April 2.
To commemorate the day, Torrevieja’s Torre del Moro and municipal theatre were bathed in blue last Thursday and Friday evenings.
Throughout the day itself the town’s association of parents of pupils with special educational needs (APANEE), hosted a number of activities in collaboration with the Avanza group bus company.
Councillor for NGOs and volunteers Concha Sala reminded that the town hall had recently carried out ‘several inclusive events’ for people suffering from Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and that on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day it had adhered to 'contributing to the development of an inclusive society that guarantees people'.
Illuminating the buildings in blue forms part of the international Light It Up Blue campaign, which saw around 400 iconic places throughout the country being lit up during those evenings.
APANEE president María José Sánchez explained that autism affects one in every 150 children, and that the centre currently provides support to around 30 youngsters with the condition.
During the presentation Avanza group manager José Pedro García revealed that he wanted to announce the ‘formalisation’ of a collaboration agreement with APANEE to improve the treatment of all disability groups by the company’s 150 drivers and auxiliary staff. equal opportunities among all
