Tuesday, March 29 Individual Stableford competition

ON a pretty dull day in Oliva Nova, we had 21 players teeing up for the individual Stableford competition. Not quite sure what happened to the weather today, it was quite a change from last week. Never the less there was some quite good scoring as we can see from the winning scores.

We are still able to go into the clubhouse after the game and today was no exception, where Oliva Nova have the appropriate social distancing in place. As last week we downplayed the presentations and there were no pictures.

There were no twos recorded today, so that’s another roll over to next week, which means more for the Captains Charity, as half the pot is donated to this.

Nearest the pins went to Mick Farmer, (again), he was also nearest in two on the 5th hole at 2.74m. And, on the 16th Donna Green beat everyone with her tee shot finishing 7.06m from the pin.

There were two divisions today and the winners were:

Division 1

1st Donna Green – 37 points 2nd Mick Farmer – 34 points 3rd Malcolm Cannon – 33 points

Division 2

1st Peter Hanks – 31 points 2nd Celia Cronin – 28 points 3rd Peter Cornes – 27 points

There was one knockout competition played today Malcolm Wise overcame Danny Herron 5&4.

Tuesday, April 6, Memorial Trophy Competition held in Oliva Nova Golf,

On an ideal day for golf at Oliva Nova, we had 21 players teeing up for the second ‘Major’ of the year The Memorial Trophy, which was an individual Stableford competition. And now the club house is open, those who want to can meet and have a chat after the games.

Oliva have made a great effort to move forward within the current restrictions and all credit to the greenkeeper, the course is in very good condition. Although some might say the rough is a bit long, the captain lost two balls today!

There were no twos recorded today so another roll over, and with half the proceeds going to the captain's charity he is very pleased that no one has achieved a two for the last few weeks. Although he doesn’t expect this ‘glut’ of funds to continue. The running total so far is €185.75.

Nearest the pins went to Mick Farmer, for the third week running, we have already reserved his prize for next week! He was also nearest in two on the 5th hole at 1.02m. And, on the 16th Danny Heron beat everyone with his tee shot finishing 7.30m from the pin.

Mick was also in the winner’s circle again taking the overall first place with a very well-played 38 points. So, his name will be on the Memorial Trophy this year.

Other leading scores today: 1st Mick Farmer – 38 points 2nd Brian Barden – 34 points 3rd Stevie Patton – 32 points 4th Ian Robertson – 31 points

Our Handicap Secretary Penny Barden is now back in harness and completing the cards and match results. She did ‘walk’ the course today albeit in a buggy and the hip replacement recovery is going really well so she should be soon back playing. We would like to thank Donna Green again for standing in and completing the cards and the match results.

Next week is a Stableford ‘Yellow Ball’ competition. If you would like to play, please email pegohandicapsec@gmail.com

Pego Society meet every Tuesday at Oliva Nova golf club, and if you would like to play please email Penny Barden at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com, and we would love to see you.
