Tight lines fishing

- By Ian Brown

Abbey Anglers

ON Tuesday, April 6 we once again visited the El Bosquet Complex at Crevillente.

The weather forecast was for warm and sunny conditions and this was in fact the case, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees in the sun but a freshening breeze made conditions difficult in the second half of the match.

Twenty-two anglers competed and we fished the pegs 1 to 7 and 26 to 40 made up of seven separate sections.

Winner on the day after a welcome return to form was yours truly Ian Brown. Drawn on peg 1 on the new section I fished maggot across just off the bottom to take a steady stream of large mullet, carp and barbel for 19.26kg.

Second was Barry Homer. Drawn on the favoured peg 26 for the second week running he also fished maggot on the pole across for 18.46kg.

Third was Neil McBernie who after a very slow start caught carp late on for 16.96kg from peg 7.

The pairs competition was won by Terry Brindley and John Waples with 23.88kg.

Other section winners included, Terry 'Mr Pastry' Brindley 13.58kg peg 40, Tony 'One arm' Mcmillan with 8.28kg from peg 37, Richard 'Veterano' King with 7.56kg from peg 30 and Richard 'I'm not laughing' Smith with 8.50kg from peg 2.

If anyone is interested in joining the club, please visit our website www.abbeyangling.es for further details. We are a very friendly club with some talented anglers and everyone is welcome.

Rods N Reels

The following day Rods N Reels fished the same venue and pegs . This time the weather forecast was not in our favour and high winds made fishing the pole on some of the pegs impossible.

The match anglers get some bad comments regarding us fishing this venue but only one other fisherman was fishing the complex.

Neil McBernie showed why he is without doubt the best angler on this complex. Drawn on peg 40, which was at times shielded from the wind, he caught nine barbel and a load of carp for a fantastic weight of 38.62kg. He fished the pole shallow with pellets to his right on this peg.

Second on the day was Richard 'Tricky' Wood. Drawn on peg 26 he fished the method feeder with wafters and late on the pole down the edge with paste for 23.22kg.

In third place was Bill Reade from Peg 4. He fished across with maggot for 13.10kg.

Other section winners were Richard Smith, peg B1 with 12.76kg and Mike 'The Gooner' Hill with 11.08kg from peg 5.

Overall the complex fished reasonably well with lots of decent weights. The pairs competition was won by Neil and Terry Screen with 45kg.
