Pego Golf Society

- By Derek Lindley, Tuesday, April 20

ON a nice and fresh Tuesday morning for golf at Oliva Nova, we had 18 players teeing up for the Stableford competition. This was an individual competition with the scores counting towards the annual eclectic competition.

Not a huge turnout but with a lot of our members still away in the UK and some still wary of the Covid pandemic all societies are struggling to maintain their playing numbers. But it is still good to get out in the fresh air.

It was also a sad day for Pego, one of our long-standing members is returning permanently to the UK. Barry Levitt has been a member of the society, not quite since its inception but not very far off so it is sad to see him leaving after such a long time. We wish him and his wife Avril all the very best as they begin their new life in Scotland.

This week was another game where, again, no twos were recorded, so more funds for the captain’s charity. Nearest the pins went to Peter Cornes on the 5th hole where his second shot finished 7.8m from the pin. And, on the 16th Brian Barden beat the field with his tee shot finishing 3.66m from the pin.

Despite the low turnout the scoring wasn’t too bad, we had two divisions today and the winners are listed below. We did manage a picture of the overall winner this week, Danny Heron seen here with his first pint!

The winners this week were;

Division 1

1st, Danny Heron – 34 points 2nd, Dave O’Conner – 31 points 3rd, Derek Lindley – 30 points

Division 2:

1st, Peter Hanks – 34 points 2nd, Fiona Sankey – 31 points 3rd, Peter Cornes – 27 points Well done everyone. Next week we will be playing another ‘Major’ The Copa de Escocia, which is a medal competition. If you would like to play, please contact pegohandicapsec @gmail.com

Pego Society meet every Tuesday at Oliva Nova golf club, and if you would like to play please email Penny Barden at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com, we would love to see you.
