Slow rise in Covid infections in the region

THE SLOW rise in cases of Covid-19 in the Valencia region is continuing.

On Wednesday the regional health department reported that there were 3,993 active cases in the region – up from 3,703 seven days previously.

Over the previous 14 days active cases rose by 499, with the figure at a low of 3,494 on April 14.

On Wednesday (April 28) the health authority recorded 225 new cases in the region in the previous 24 hours – 41 in Castellón province, 57 in Alicante province and 127 in Valencia province.

Despite the rise in infections, the number of people being treated for Covid-19 in the region’s hospitals continues to fall.

A total of 256 coronaviru­s patients were on the wards on Wednesday, down from 281 seven days previously.

Of these 54 were in Castellón province, 69 in Alicante province and 133 in Valencia province.

The number of patients requiring treatment in intensive

care units is down from 64 to 54, with 18 of these in Alicante province.

On Wednesday the health department reported that 37 people had died of Covid-19 in the previous seven days, which is three more than in the seven-day period running from April 14 to 21. The total death toll for the Valencia region since the pandemic started now stands at 7,307.

On Wednesday they reported 10 minor outbreaks of the virus, recorded in the previous 24 hours.

Four were in Alicante province – the largest in Elche with nine cases of social origin; Rafal with six cases of social origin; Orihuela with four cases at a school; and Denia with three cases of social origin.
