Alameda del Mar bounces back

ORIHUELA town hall social services department is preparing for the return of group activities in its municipal centres for the elderly.

More than one year has passed since the municipality’s centres changed the way in which they work due to the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During this time centre staff have been interacting with service users by means of the internet, telephone, and other communication techniques.

Earlier this week the town hall and centre workers were reported to have begun ‘efforts to resume face-to-face activity with workshops in small bubble groups aimed at promoting activities for the elderly’.

Councillor for social welfare Almudena Baldó explained: “Currently, and in accordance with instructions issued by the health department, all users of the centres for the elderly are being contacted via telephone to find out if they wish to recommence their activities and if they have received their complete Covid-19 vaccination regime. Face-to-face groups are being formed according to the minimum risk level that allows us to reactivate the service.”

With the current low infection rates, the department wants to ‘guarantee the security and health’ of elderly people, ‘regardless of whether users have received their full vaccination,’ until the pandemic is overcome.

In this way, the rate of vaccination will be the driver for the return of normal activities in the shortest possible time.

Until this time centre staff will continue with the online activities.

All programmes undertaken at these centres, including those at Alameda del Mar in Orihuela Costa, are aimed at preventing social isolation and improving the quality of life of older people.
