Costa classical concert
PLAYA Flamenca esplanade is hosting a concert by Orihuela symphony orchestra (OSO) on Saturday (May 1) at 19.00.
The performance will pay homage to the municipality’s number one son, the poet Miguel Hernández.
For the concert, the orchestra will feature 20 musicians, who will perform a programme that is designed to ‘evoke moments from the life of the Orihuela poet’.
“During the concert there will be recitals of the poems Vientos del Pueblo (winds of the town), Elegía (elegy), Niño Yuntero (ploughboy), and Nanas de la cebolla (onion lullabies), narrated by Emilio Pastor and Natalia Rodriguez,” said councillor for culture Mar Ezcurra.
The programme also features compositions by Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Holst, Richard Meyer and Kalinnikov, plus the premiere of a piece entitled Evocación (evocation), written by the OSO musical director, Antonio Pujol, and dedicated to
Miguel Hernández.
“Dramatism, uncertainty, agony but also tenderness and joy will be very present in this outdoor concert in Orihuela Costa,” said Sr Pujol.
Although the performance starts at 19.00 people are urged to arrive early as there is a strict capacity, and to meet all of the prevailing health measures.
“This is a unique occasion to be able to enjoy the Orihuela symphony orchestra in a concert as emotional as this
one that has been prepared in memory of, and to pay homage to Miguel Hernández. It is also the first time that this wonderful orchestra will perform outdoors and in a place with as much charm as Playa Flamenca esplanade in Orihuela Costa,” added the councillor.
The concert was originally set to take place on April 17, but the threat of inclement weather forced its rescheduling.
