Tight Lines Fishing

- By Ian Brown Abbey Anglers

ON Tuesday, April 19 we once again visited El Bosquet complex at Crevillente.

The weather was set fair and 20 anglers took part, fishing pegs A1 to 7 and 26 to 40.

Winner on the day, and no this is not last weeks report, was none other than Neil McBernie. Neil is without doubt the dominant angler on this complex, and drawn on peg B1 he fished across up in the water on maggot to take 29.86kg of carp.

Second and pegged next to him was the one arm wonder himself, Tony McMillan. Tony has been suffering from a snapped shoulder since December and due to complications he has been waiting for an operation to put it right. His shoulder is heavily strap and to watch him fish with virtually one arm is a sight to behold. He took a steady stream of carp and several large barbel all on maggot for 20.50kg.

In third place, drawn on the other side of the complex on peg 40 was Alan Smith. Alan fished across on pellet or down the side on bread to catch a large number of carp for 20.40kg.

The pairs competition was

won by Neil and Richard Wood with 38.74kg. Other section winners were Terry Brindley with 12.42kg, Terry Screen 14.26kg, Bill Reade 13.40kg and Richard King with 8.28kg.

The following day due to Covid injection appointments and the threat of some bad weather only 10 hardy souls attended the match. We were rewarded with possibly the best average weights we have ever had at this complex.

We fished in decent weather conditions apart from the last two hours when a light drizzle was present.

Doing the double was the king of El Bosquet, Neil McBernie. Drawn on peg 6 he fished maggot up in the water to take a magnificent 43.44kg of mainly carp with the odd barbel and mullet. The only blemish on his recent record was that he broke his very expensive pole with a schoolboy error by picking it up incorrectly.

Second on the day was yours truly Ian Brown. Draw on the same channel on peg

B1 I fished maggot all day either up in the water or 4 inches off the bottom to catch quality carp and the odd mullet for 30.86kg.

Third was Bill Reade draw on peg 35 with 21.18kg of carp caught on bread or maggot.

The pairs competition was won by Neil and Steve Higgins with 63.46kg.

The average weight between

the ten anglers was 20.60kg so credit should be passed onto the owners for the splendid job that they have done in restocking and maintaining the complex.

Next time we will be again fishing the same complex.
