Alfaz Fantasy Football League

- By Eric Malpus Week 30

THERE were five Premier League games in the mid-week and seven at the weekend which produced for the Alfaz Fantasy Football League a total of 24 goals, nine clean sheets. 37 yellow cards and four controversial red ones. Two players were sent off in the mid-week clash between champions elect Manchester City and Aston Villa. John Stones was dismissed for dangerous play while Cash was removed after receiving two yellow cards. (I bet he was glad to get off as Phil Foden was giving him the runaround). The other two naughty boys were West Ham's Balbuena and Brighton's talented defender Ben White.

With the finishing line in sight, teams continue to grapple for precious pts at the top of the AFFL in what has been another remarkable season. Clara's Babes who have been top of the league for the last 15 weeks have finally been knocked off their perch by Dave's team Milton Keynes FC who have now taken a slender 2pt lead at the summit. Both teams will have to be wary of Magpies Forever and Bristow Ballers who are both still in the mix for the final showdown. There is a tight battle going on at the bottom between Dave's Bogtrotters Rerun and Len's team Do Better, at the moment Len's team are trailing the Bogtrotters by 7pts.

It's been on the cards since Christmas that Clara's Babes would walk away with our Junior League and leave the rest of the teams battling it out for the runners-up spot. Currently, William & Henry Two are favourites with a 23 pt advantage over Alisson Wonderland. Olly's 11 are in deep water at the bottom as they are now a mammoth 92pts adrift of Andrew's Dolphins.

Lillian's Press Gang have not given up the ghost of catching Carol's Sky Blues at the top of our Mark Carter Ladies Section as they have now closed the gap at the top to only 12 points. Rachel's Blue Murder and Pauline's Vodka Army are well in contention in 3rd and 4th place. There is no change at the bottom with Liverpool 94 still in trouble 31 points away from Sandra's Scorers. Patangyangkipperbang have maintained their place at the top of our Golden Boot League for the last four weeks even though his three strikers Bamford, Igalo and Abraham have not scored for ages, however, he has a strong midfield with Mo Salah (154pts), Bruno Fernandes (119pts) and Phil Foden (56) who between them have clocked up 229pts. Catherine's Pompey Hammers are only 8 points behind in 2nd place, then comes last season's winners of this section Old Salfordians. Burnley's Chris Wood was this week's top scorer with 15pts to his name after scoring a first half hat-trick against toothless Wolves. Only six fantasy managers selected the underrated centre-forward. Down at the foot of the table, Len's team Do Better are propping up another division, although it's fair to say there are only 3 points between them and Barry's team Armanello.

Sick Note were this week's top scorers with a tally of 54 pts while the opposite end of the scale Flippers Dozers got the lowest score of a big fat zero. Both teams will be in the hat for our monthly wine draw. Flippers Dozers won our January draw.

C'Mon my Babes won the manager of the month for April when they just pipped Lillian's Press Gang by only 1pt. Lucy's Luck finished 3rd after leading for most of the month

The four teams through to the semi-finals of our KO Cup competition are Big Tony's Boulevard Blues who disposed of young Tony's team The Real Blue Army by 47-20, Our last Junior Standing team, Harley's Ginger Ninja who beat Karen's Florida Pearls 31-17, Martin's Nobby Napals edged through against Marsenal's Legends by 30-24. The last team through was Eric's NonRunners who beat the rank outsiders Star of the Show 5115. The draw for the semifinals will soon be on our website and will take place during the second weekend in May.
