IT was a lot warmer day on Tuesday, March 7, for the individual Stableford competition, we all hope the temperature keeps rising!
We had a total of 31 players turn up, including six guests Peter and Tricia Chapman, Chris and Anne Riley, Alan Grocott and Glenys Cuming. The Chapmans are ex-members of Pego and they brought along a couple of friends Chris and Anne Riley, who have a holiday home in Teulada and have played with Pego many times. They, along with our other guests, were made very welcome. So much so that Chris walked away with the guest prize, with the best score of 36 points.
We had twos, by Malcolm Cannon, Geoff Dawe and Nigel Siddall, who all managed it on the 16th hole. Nearest the pins went to Nigel Siddall on the 16th, and with his second shot to the fifth Derek Lindley got inside Charlie Miller, so the all won a box of balls.
Just as an aside, I have to give a mention to our captain Celia who suffered a disaster on the ninth hole, when she watched her trolley run into
the particularly smelly barranco. I am not sure how it happened, but all was well in the end as her playing partners help retrieve it, although I am sure none of them ventured into the water!
So, on a good day for golf, albeit there was a stiff breeze, we did have some very good scores. In fourth and fifth place, tied on 32 points, were Paul Westerman and Geoff Dawe, and in third and second place with 33 and 34 points respectively were Roger Miller and Paul Sankey, but the clear winner was Jan Jones with 36 points.
With a new World Handicap
System of 44, we expect to see Jan in the winners’ circle regularly this season.

5. Geoff Dawe – 32 points There was one knockout played on the day, Bill Pike versus David Blakeley. Bill came out on top with a 3 and 1 win over David. So, Bill progresses to the next round.
