Easter parades at the double
THE PRIDE and the passion of Easter has been on view, as processions took place at the weekend and the beginning of the week in Villajoyosa, Torrevieja, Cartagena and many other municipalities along the coast.
With tens of thousands of tourists flocking to the area from inland cities and abroad, large crowds have been gathering to watch the brotherhoods which carry the traditional floats through the streets.
Several hundred people attended the traditional blessing of the palms and olive branches at the San Jaime and Santa Ana church at the top of the Old Town in Benidorm on Sunday.
A procession through the streets near the church, saw participants holding their palms prior to Mass being celebrated.

The processions in Cartagena have been awarded ‘international tourism interest’ status and visitors can view them in the coming days.
All of the ones listed here start from the Santa María de Gracia church on Calle del Aire in the historic quarter.
Today (Holy Thursday) will see the solemn silent procession of Santísimo Cristo de los Mineros undertaken by the California brotherhood, which sets out at 21.00.
On Good Friday four simultaneous processions take place in the early hours, before the Santo Entierro de Cristo procession begins at 20.00.
On Saturday the Vera Cruz procession sets out at 19.00; and for Easter Sunday it’s the Procesión de Nuestro Padre Jesús Resucitado at 10.30.
