More visions of the Far East
Alicante government published more images of the eagerly-awaited exhibition
THE PROVINCIAL government has released more photographs of the acclaimed ‘Guerreros de Xi’an’ exhibition about China, which opened at Alicante museum of archaeology (MARQ) last week.
And Costa Blanca News photographer David Revenga has visited the collection, which includes more than 150 pieces illustrating the legacy of the Qin and Han dynasties. Billed as the ‘most relevant cultural project of the year in Spain’, it is open until January 24. A total of 120 of the pieces are originals, ‘many of them being exhibited for the first time outside China’.
These include 10 figures – nine warriors and a horse – from the Terracotta Army in the mausoleum of Qin, the country’s first emperor.
Provincial government president Carlos Mazón said it was ‘an unmissable opportunity to admire the beauty of an
archaeological collection like few others, in one of the best museums in Europe’.
China’s minister for culture and tourism, Hu Heping said:
“Thanks to the objects on show, the public can enjoy the idiosyncrasies of the Qin and Han dynasties and the beauty of our culture, a great step to deepen the cultural exchange and friendship of our peoples.”
The exhibition features materials that are educational and accessible to all, including different smells to create an immersive atmosphere, with room one smelling of cherry and rice, room two of incense, and room three of lotus flower and tea, as well as musical pieces created especially by Alicante composer Luis Ivars throughout the route.
Tickets can be booked on the MARQ website or ticket offices for €5 each, with discounts for over 65s, young people and students, amongst others. It had over 3,000 visits in its first four days and around 25,000 online bookings, based on which it is forecast to reach a total over 300,000 visits, more than the current record of 220,000 for the 2009 exhibition of Ancient Greek sculptures, which included the Discobolus by Myron.
The MARQ is currently open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 to 19.00 and Saturdays 10.00 to 14.00, and closed on Mondays.
